Little River Mine Tunnel under construction  (12/2000). The
tunnel has been completed and serves as a train storage
shed.  It also features a fog machine that periodically fills it
with fog while the trains are running.

Other trackside features are a saloon, from which issue the
sounds of an old west gunfight everytime a train passes and a crossing which activates crossing bell sounds when a train approaches.

For Xmas, an animated snowman turns a summersault above the passing trains and icicle lights adorn the trestles.

Many more trackside ifeatures, nvolving light and sound will be added, including a thunderstorm complete with thunder and ligntning.  May of these features will be activated for nighttime runs.

                           Rail Shipment

We picked up 3,000 fee of West Coast profile rail at the HALS track in September.  This rail is heavier than the standard rail  which was used for phase 1 construction.  Thanks to the HALS club (which I joined) for this oppurtunity.

We can now begin phase 2 construction and have begun making track sections.  Phase 2 will include the switchback down the hill into the river bottom and a loop at the bottom.  The switch on the Phase 1 loop around the house which will be used to access the phase 2 section has been installed.  When Phase 2 is complete the railroad will consist of the 1,100 foot loop around the house, the switch back, and another loop at the end of the switchback..  The railroad will be point to point with a loop at both ends.  Phase 2 will probably require about 1,500 feet of track and 3 more switches.

I plan to add a diagram of the track to this page soon.
